Q1: What services are provided in residential & rural residential areas?

  • 1 x 140L Red lidded Bin for Garbage – (collected weekly)
  • 1 x 240L Yellow lidded Bin for Recycling – (collected fortnightly)
  • 1 x 240L Green lidded Bin for Green Waste – (collected alternate fortnightly)

 

Q2: What services are provided in rural areas?

  • 1 x 140L Red lidded Bin for Garbage – (collected weekly)

Q3: How much does this service cost?

Please contact Council’s Rates department for service fees.

 

Q4: We have a large family – can we have additional services if required?

Yes. You may have an additional waste, recycling or green waste bin if required (fees apply).

 

Q5: I don’t have any green waste – do I have to have this service?

You do not have to retain all 3 bins if you do not want to, however, you will still be rated for this service whether it is fully utilized or not. Council provides a range of services which are funded by the annual domestic waste charge e.g. chemical clean up, bulky waste collections. It is your choice which services you use.

 

Q6: Can I swap my green waste bin for an additional waste or recycling bin?

No. These services cannot be swapped as they are charged at different rates by the contractor.

 

Q7: What can I place in the Garbage Bin (Red Lidded Bin)?

General household garbage, plastic bags and non-recyclable plastics e.g. cling wrap, pyrex, ceramics or pottery, broken toys. Take away Coffee cups & lids

 

Q8: What can I place in the Recycling Bin (Yellow Lidded Bin)?

All recyclable items such as:

  • Paper & Cardboard – newspapers, magazines, milk/juice cartons, and cardboard boxes
  • Plastics – Rigid plastic containers from your kitchen, bathroom and laundry (lids in RED bin)
  • Steel – Food cans, aerosol cans, jar lids, coffee tins
  • Aluminium – soft drink/beer cans, clean foil
  • Glass – bottles and jars only (all colours)

 

Q9: What can I place in the Greenwaste Bin (Green Lidded Bin)?

Lawn & grass clippings, pruning’s & small branches, leaves and weeds.

 

Q10: Does Council provide a Bulky Waste Cleanup?

An annual Metal and Bulky Waste Cleanup is provided for all residents in the Great Lakes and Manning Local Government Areas who currently receive a Domestic Waste and Recycling Service.

Q11: What do I do if my bin is stolen?

Contact the hotline for stolen bins on 131 444 to report your bin missing and receive an event number.

Then phone Midcoast Waste Services on 1300 290 763 with your event number and they will organise a replacement bin for you.

 

Q12: What do I do if my bin is damaged?

Contact Midcoast Waste Services on 1300 290 763.

 

Q13: I’m unsure if its Greenwaste or Recycling Week. How can I check?

Visit the Midcoast Waste Services Website and click on Collection Day Search.

 

Q14: If I have visitors at Christmas time can I organise extra bin collections?

Yes. Contact JR Richards and Sons on (02) 6555 7007 – (fees apply).
