Recycling is easy, helps reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and has great environmental benefits.
All residents in the Midcoast Waste Services area receive a fortnightly recycling service which is collected in the
240 Litre Yellow lidded Bin.
The recycling service is a commingled service where all recyclable items are placed together into one bin. It is therefore important that all items remain loose and are not placed inside plastic bags.
What goes in your Recycling Bin?
Only these items should be placed in your Recycling Bin:

Cardboard Boxes, Newspaper, Magazines, Office Paper & Junk Mail

Glass Bottles & Jars

Rigid Plastic Containers From Your Kitchen, Bathroom & Laundry

Steel/Aluminium Cans & Empty Aerosols
These items should never be placed in your Recycling Bin:

Plastic Bags

Nappies

Building Materials

Syringes & Medical Waste

Hazardous Materials

Food Waste

Polystyrene

Small Metal Items & Old Tools

Clothing, Shoes & Bedding

Machinery & Auto Parts

Oils, Paints & Chemicals

Plastic Packets & Wrappers
Recycling Hints and Tips
- Flatten cardboard containers to make more space in your recycling bin
- Wipe out or rinse recyclable containers in old washing up water before placing them in the bin
- Remove all lids from bottles and containers, placing the lids into the red lidded garbage bin
- Don’t place items in plastic bags as they cannot be recycled and cause issues at the recycling plant
An ongoing recycling bin inspection program will take place to ensure only recyclable items are placed in the correct bin.
Collection vehicles are fitted with colour cameras to check the bin contents every time it is emptied. Residents who continually place incorrect items in the recycling bin may have their bin removed.
